OVERVIEW
This project included the creation and editing of a special edition editorial for Communication Arts Magazine based on the Russian Constructivism design era. Included above is the cover design and three spreads on Gustav Klimt, a Constructivist artist who specialized in photomontage (i.e. collage).
SOLUTION
Photo selection included imagery that revolved around construction, community, and youthfulness mainly due to historical reasons — Construction because of the budding allure to new technology in the 1920s, community due to Lenin’s fixation on uniting all classes (especially the working class), and youthfulness because this was a fresh start for the newly formed Communist Russia — Overall, a high degree of experimentation with scale and rotation were crucial to creating kinetic spreads.
